90 4Runner Alternator Repair or Replacement Questions

Sep 01, 2003 2 Replies

My Alternator requires replacement. The brake and battery lights came on and the Voltage gauge show no charge to battery.

Question: To take apart the alternator and replace the bushing, I have removed the bolts around the mid section of alternator and it seems really snug and does not want to open. Do I have to remove pulley and nut in order to open alternator? Are any other parts recommended for replacement besides the bushing? Any other advice as a new/ refurbished Alternator has been quoted at close to $300. Canadian or approximately $175. US. Any comments are appreciated along with how long and reliable my alternator may be if I repair versus buying a refurbished one.

Thanks

James

You may only need new brushes, easy to replace and inexpensive:
