Antenna base on 2002 Tundra

My radio antenna base is loose. How do you tighten it? Do you have to get to it from below the fender or from the top?

I'm not positive about your car, but take a look - a generality in car design is that the top of the fender fitting where the antenna comes out (hand retractable or power) is a nut that holds the antenna to the fender. Might be a spanner nut with two small grooves, flats or holes, but it's a nut. And fixed-rod aerials are often the same.

Once you determine how it tightens, the only other trick to figure out is coming up with some sort of wrench or pliers to turn the spanner nut without messing up the nut's chrome or black finish. If it's grooves, try end-nipper wire cutters and a gentle grip while turning.

If it's flats, find an open end wrench that fits - an adjustable "Crescent Wrench" won't hold the fine adjustment needed, and will inevitably round off the flats. And any sort of pliers will chew up the finish.

And it's "Lefty Loosie, Righty Tightie" unless proven otherwise.

If it doesn't move easily don't force it, that's when things break.

Mine has that type of nut, but it doesn't seem to tighten the base. Should that be removed and will another nut be found inside the plastic base on the outside of the fender? TIA

I don't know, but it's entirely possible - /gently/ give it a try.

The factory antenna will most likely have a fixed angle base on it, but if it has been replaced with an aftermarket or universal antenna there's a ball swivel at the base of the antenna that will adjust to any fender angle and leave the antenna pointing straight up.

If you want access to the bottom of the antenna, you usually have to remove the fender liner to get in there. You can use a flashlight and a telescopic inspection mirror to look at the bottom of the antenna.

Factory electric antennas will have a brace to the body at the bottom (inside the fender) so it won't immediately fall into the hole if you take the top nut off. Aftermarket or someone's been messing, you never know...
