Auto transmission trouble:

Sep 02, 2004 1 Replies

I am considering a pickup that is for sale. It has had a lot of work done on it but the last thing that happened was the automatic transmission went out. The guy took it to a mechanic who found the torque converter had broken and pieces went into the transmission. He replaced the torque converter and both pumps. When the owner installed the transmission it does nothing, no movement or sound of trying to engage. Any idea what could be wrong?

It is a 1986 4 runner, 4x4 with the 22re engine.

Thanks,

Gary

wrong ? The seller is trying to sell a truck without a transmission The transmission wasn't disassembled, cleaned and inspected pieces of the torque converter went into the transmission and now it doesn't engage.

I'd say no matter what behavior you can Milk out of the transmission, it needs an overhaul based upon principle of the events you described.

Sorry I'm stating the profound.
