Need info on replacing brake pads on 98 4Runner.

Can someone tell me the process of replacing my front brake pads on my

4Runner? I want to take the rotors off to get them turned also. What tools will I need? Are there any special tools needed? Maybe there is a website that lays this out.

Thanks for all advice.

Basically: apply the emergency brake, park the vehicle in gear (or in Park for Auto).

Place wheel chocks (or bricks or rocks) to the front of one rear tire, and to the rear of the other.

Loosen the front lugnuts.

Jack up and support the front end on jack stands at the marked spots.

Remove the wheels.

Unbolt and lift the caliper out of the way.

Remove the pads.

Unbolt the hubs, the spindle nut, and remove the rotors.

You'll need 10-17mm Sockets (6pt!) and box-end wrenches (6pt!), plus something to hold the caliper up and out of the way (wire, string, bolt, etc), brake parts cleaner, and probably some sort of penetrating oil. Don't force anything; use a torch and penetrating oil to remove any rusted bolts.

You may find some help at this oft-quoted resource:

Though I've not looked at it as I own the factory manuals.

You're welcome. Disc brakes are easy, congrats on doing it yourself.
