New Tacoma in '05 ?

I've read posts on this group back into March and haven't found anything on a new Tacoma in '05. I want to buy the double cab 2wd but if a new version is coming out soon, I'd like to wait. I like the size and power of the Canyon/Colorado and I'm hoping Toyota is going to do something similar.

If this has been discussed in this group previously, I apologize for asking, but I'd appreciate knowing what might be happening body/feature wise with Tacoma.

Thanks, Jean

I was at my dealer yesterday and asked when the '05 Tacomas would be in. (My daughter is bugging me to give her my 2001 PreRunner DC, to replace the

1993 extended cab I gave her when I got the DC.) The salesman said he thought in August but would check. He came back in a few minutes and said the Toyota cars would be available in August but that the '05 pickups weren't coming in until January 2005. I guess we won't know for sure until they show up at the dealer or Toyota makes an official announcement.

It's been moved up to Sept. for the show room. For pictures search Chicago Auto show and down load autos.msn.com

I must be doing something wrong. I didn't have any luck finding the '05 pictures or any info on when they hit the showroom.

2005 Toyota Tacoma Toyota Tacoma X-Runner is the first trim of the revised 2005 Tacoma lineup to be shown to the public.

Here's what's new: Toyota As it does every year, Toyota hosted the first press conference of the Chicago show.

The redesigned 2005 Tacoma will arrive later this year. The first version of the new Tacoma will be the high-performance X-Runner. Featuring all-new styling, the X-Runner has a longer wheelbase and wider track than the previous-generation S-Runner, providing increased interior, shoulder and hip room. The X-Runner will ride one inch lower than a standard Tacoma, and features a reinforced frame, firmer springs, specially tuned shocks and

18-inch wheels with V-rated performance tires. Don Esmond, Toyota Division senior vice president and general manager, told the assembled journalists that the Nissan 350Z sports car was used as the benchmark of performance and handling for this truck. Powering the X-Runner is a 240-horsepower V6 engine; however, a factory installed and warranted supercharger system can boost power to around 300, pushing this truck to 60 mph in less than six seconds. Handling is also impressive=97Toyota claims the X-Runner can hold the road in excess of .9 g of lateral acceleration.

The X-Runner will arrive in showrooms in Sept.,followed shortly by the rest of the next-generation's Tacoma lineup. =AC=AC=AC=AC=AC=AC=AC=AC=AC=AC=AC=AC=AC=AC=AC=AC=AC=AC=AC=AC=AC=AC=AC=AC=AC= =AC=AC=AC=AC=AC=AC

"standard Tacoma"? Now, is that the regular cab, 4x2 or 4wd? I'm assuming it's not the latter. They're providing all the details about the X-R, but they're not being very specific about the 4x4 version, which is interesting, because that's the more popular choice.

Here's a vid of the X-Runner. It's the top link on the page.

I think I'll hang on to my supercharged S-Runner a while longer.
