1970 'vert for sale in Northern Virginia

I bought it in the fall of 2002. I've been sick and I need to pay some bills. Here's a picture of it from then:

Since then, one headlight ring and the bumpers have rusted and it needs a new paint job, but I just put $2800 into it, getting the heater channels competely replaced, and it has been Por-15'd underneath. Runs good, 92,000 original miles.

I'll post inside and outside pictures in the next couple of days. If any one in the Fairfax County area of Virginia would like to see it, please contact me privately.

Sorry to hear about your condition -- hope it isn't permanent and you'll be back on your feet soon.

You may want to post this one on

as you'll address a larger ACVW audience.

Ah, thanks Remco...chemo is a killer but it's done and over with now. Woo Hoo!

Yeah, I know. I have been monitoring this list for 3 years since I bought "YellyBean".

$5000...negotiable...needs seats, carpet, headliner, new window rubber. The bumpers must have been the cheap Brazilian things. A TRUE

25-yarder!

With the holidays and then the rain, I finally got around to posting pictures of YellyBean here:

I have been a lurker for the past 3 years since I bought YellyBean in the fall of 2002. I have posted in the past as Randy ranny9 @ cox dot net. The yahoo addy is to try to cut down on spam to my primary account. I would like her to go to a good home, to someone here on this list if possible. If not, I will put her up on The Samba later.

I realize postings of this nature are not always welcome here, so I will not bother anyone again. Please contact me privately if interested. As I said before, I just spent $2800 to have the heater channels completely replaced by Tim at AceGerman in Woodbridge/Stafford, VA $5000 negotiable.

Randy, it wouldn't let me see pics, says authorization required and asks for a user name and password...

I took them down for a couple of hours yesterday when I realized I didn't camoflage all the license plates...try it now. If it still won't let you in I'll make other arrangements to send them to you.

Why do people (mostly americans) tend to camouflage the licence plates? why is there a need to do that?

Hard to sneak up on the critters you're hunting with those big scary plates otherwise.

Because of the possibility of someone finding out from the DMV EXACTLY where I live. With so much identity theft and crime committed from knowledge obtained by way of the internet and other means, I feel safer NOT providing it online. For example, the phone number on the "for sale" sign I put on the bug during the day is my cell phone number, which I _rarely_ use. I do not want my crazy, stooopid neighbors to get my land line number. YMMV

Recently _several_ families, including small young children, were murdered here in the state of Virginia from information obtained by someone who knew someone else and knew the front door would be unlocked for a New Year's Day party. I just don't trust strangers anymore.

........Good question. Many Americans have a peculiar attitude about privacy and/or anonymity and maybe that's why. I couldn't care less whether my license plate number got posted. In fact, here it is: CAB 6397 NY

That's exactly what I mean Tim, maybe you should be careful with your social security number, mother maiden's name, where you put your house keys or private land line number. but licence plates? I can't imagine what damage can someone do with that info, it's in plain sight most of the time anyways.

Only the plates? I camouflage my whole car. Just because I am paranoid doesn't mean people aren't out to get me! :)

Over here (UK) we have what has been called car cloning. Someone takes a same make / colour car as yours and copies your plates.

Then if they go around speeding etc you get the fine posted to your address !

Worst still - they go out and rob a bank, and you get the swat team round !!!!!

a couple of good reasons not to show the numbers.

They do that here too, stealing the tags.

Most of the time that can be curbed by using those cammed security screws (they go in but can't come out). Most of the time it is a crime of opportunity/convenience and they'll move on to another car in the parking lot when they see that it is a pain in the ass to get the plate off.

We are talking photo's here rermember - they dont bother stealing the plates over here.

Altho its a PITA to get a new set of plates LEGALY - its easy to get any number you want made up in about 10 minutes if you know where to go.

You got a Do Not Revive bracelet, too?

I see what you mean with copying. I'm not sure if there is an illegal license plate market over here - the might very well be one. We have to put registration stickers on the tags too. Those things are pretty hard to fake and indicates when your registration runs out.

So, unless you copy the plate and the registration sticker exactly and stick it on the same model and color car, you do run a risk of getting caught.

Cops, almost by way of routine, just call in Connecticut tags to see what it comes back to and when the registration runs out. It is a way to get their quota in for the month. Their favorite modus operandi is to cruise through shopping malls (we have one or two of those here, as you probably know :), checking plates.

A person seeing my plate doesn't really bother me. They won't be able to do very long what they want to do. On the other hand, I do shred everything: mail, bills, personal info, etc to alleviate dumpster diving - a healthy level of paranoia is good.
