Later distributor on earlier car?

Hey, anyone know if it's ok to put a later distributor on an earlier engine. I have an early 1970 1300 AB engine block (dual oil relief), and a later

1600 single vac/weights distributor. According to some websites the early AB timing was 5' ATDC and on others it's 7.5' BTDC. Car seems to run fine, which I guess is the acid test :-) but just curious.

If you are not looking for performance and want to keep the car stock and it runs good. Leave it alone. On the other hand, if you want better performance they you have many options. Keep in mind it is the combination of parts that make performance. Example- headers or performance exhaust, you will need to go to richer jets. Or if you run a not Vacumm dizzy you will shift more and may get poorer milage, for that bit of extra speed. Go to

and if you are thinking of change and asks John. He is honest.

Car runs well, goes up hills like a ferret up a drain pipe - better than most watercooled cars I've owned. I have a merged header and certainly had to go up a couple of jet sizes to prevent it running lean. Car is basically undercarb'd, you notice it as the revs rise higher, as soon as I get hold of a couple of baby Dells it will get interesting :-) Anyway, I guess you have to time the engine to whatever dizzy you have on it.
