There is no average sounding American. It depends on the location. Those in Massachusetts have a different accent than those in South Carolina who's accent is different than those from Mississippi who's accent is different than those from Texas who's accent is different from those in West Virginia etc. etc. etc.

Like one of the Ramvettes (Anna? Claire?) said recently, 50 States and each one of 'em different. And more ways to murder the Queen's English than you would imagine. Yep, you betcha!

..............heh heh......I haven't even mentioned what happens to the Queen's English when you're in Baaston. I was just there last weekend for a meeting and my wife and I went out to see Blue Man at the Charles Theater and eat at Legal Seafood Restaurant afterward. It's a remarkable city with a cursed baseball team and un-godly traffic except when the Sox are losing to the Yankees..........lol

...............I don't think that I have an accent.

Yes you did, when you went from my house to go see KidGoddess. About two hours north of me. Jim Scraps  69 Bug Jan Andersson wrote: I did see one cute brunette in St.Petersburg (Of Russia, not the one in Florida although I did drive through/past that one too I think)

Do you have a radio installed in the dash? If so remove it. If you're lucky, the cable broke on the release lever. just grab the end of the cable and pull like hell. If that doesn't work, cut off the handle. Dan

you shouldn't...most upstate newyorkers don't have that bad of a "yankee" accent....i interact with a freshly transplanted upstate ny fellow everyday(he works for a company i sub work from) and i had no idea he was a new yorker...even he says most "upstaters" don't sound like the stereotypical new yorker... J

...................We're not as colorful as those downstaters...........just plain folk!

:-)

Thanks Jim, I wasn't sure anymore..

So, I can honestly say I have been to BOTH St. Petersburgs :P

But aren't we lucky that there still are those 4 on topic posts that = actually (IMO) have good suggestions about the problem. Situation could also be like that there is just one reply to the problem which is "Use = dynamite".

I like it more this way ;)

Love that Mass-hole accent.

I was just there last

...and you didn't call me?

my wife and I went out to see Blue Man at

Good eats at Legal's.

We're going to take the American League championship tonight. As for the traffic, don't drive...take the T!

Ha-ha. Yankees suck!!!

.................The only free time that we had was Saturday night and it seemed like the whole city was glued to their TVs if they weren't at Fenway. I didn't know whether you were very close in to the city and my wife hates VWs anyway...........

...........Next time I go there I'll definitely get in touch......I promise!

btw.......If you ever go to see a race at Watkins Glen, I'm on the way there from your region.
