Just updated again today! (But you need to get version 1.3...the old version is no longer updated).

You need to go to their website and download a later version, if you start getting suspicious. When they come up with a new release of the whole program, there's no way you would know other than noticing the lack of updates, as the old version is no longer supported. Got me puzzled for a while. Check your version number. I think they are on v1.13 now. Meaning 1.12 won't be getting any more web updates.

I ran it today and there was a new update available. Last time I ran it was about a week ago and I checked for an update at that time.

I don't know how any the Windows OS users can stand all the hassle... I haven't needed to run VIRUS software for fifteen years now... Of course, it helps if you aren't running the Windows OS or operating with Intel or Intel compatible CPUs...

If you aren't playing the latest games all the time on your computer, there's no big advantage to the Windows platform. All the creative and productive software you'd ever need is available on the non-Windows machines. It's just the area of games where there's a significant difference.

I'm not a gamer myself, but if I was, I'd get a Playstation II instead, and keep my PC more crash-prone by not having a bunch of games that install conflicting .dll files, etc. Since the game market isn't a consideration for me, I'm very happy with what I have...

Please don't bother replying about this being an evangelization message for the Mac platform... I've heard it all before...

Anyone who has ever seriously explored the current Mac OS with an open mind is usually very impressed. Certainly less grief with viruses, worms, popups, etc. and pretty much crash free thanks to the BSD UNIX running the whole OS underneath the GUI shell.

In addition to the above I run SpywareBlaster and Webroots Spy Sweeper... I also run MailWasher and regurlary use CCleaner, It System Wiper and Window Washer...

When that is done I use Eraser and write zeros to all unused space and cluster tips! The latter realy speeds up things, do a defragment and you are all sett..

The majority of software development is for windoze platform, like it or not. No need to argue about it, it's just a fact of life. Not just for games. *nix has come a long way as far as user-friendliness, but it's still not there. Maybe someday in the near future, but not today, and until it (*nix) is dumbed down enough for most, windoze will stay on top. You can say I'm wrong, but we'll all be witness to what happens in the real world and will see who's right and who's wrong. :wq!

Err... perhaps you misunderstood... I do NOT run UNIX or Linux!

I run the Mac OS, specifically, Mac OS X (which has a BSD-like UNIX layer underneath the GUI)...

For "user-friendliness", it has Windows beaten in spades... no argument except from the un-informed.

As far as "majority of software development" goes, if you take away the software that I'd never use anyway (point of sale, action games, gazillions of utilities to help make Windows usable, etc.), the rest of the categories are very well covered on the Mac side. Office is there, Photoshop, Quicken, music, video, audio editors are all there... in many cases, the Mac stuff has no decent competition on the Windows side... Final Cut Pro for example... Even the scientists have better genetic software to pick from on the Mac side at the moment.

I have to chime in again regarding HijackThis. What has sold me on it over any other anti-spyware is this: HijackThis DOES NOT scan for spyware! What? So why is it so good? Because it doesn't require "updates" for newly emerging nasties. What it does do is a complete scan of the Windows registry for EVERYTHING that is installed on your system to run at bootup and hooked into your browser. This is a whole different philosophy for fixing your system. That is, the other products say "I know better than you what is bad and will show you what to fix". HijackThis says "I will show you everything installed on your system, in all the obscure and secret places you normally would not notice, then YOU get educated about what it is and decide for yourself what to keep and what to delete." At first this may sound, intimidating, but with a little web researching, soon you will have total command of what is running on your system. Another surprising benefit is not just the spyware fixes, but learning what other non-spyware "fat" that could be shed from your computer's overhead, which can end up making your system run much better in itself. Try it, I think the geek in you will love it.
