OT - father/son project building a shop

I could name quite a few countries in Europe/Scandinavia where you do not need a green card to enter.(In fact most, if not all...). Where you also could erect a shed as big as you wish..

But that is not what you wanted to hear though, right?

Canada is a nice place.. Crime rate and prison population a fraction of what they have on the other side of the Niagra Falls.

yeah, that shows it....didn't see that the first time through...

it's like that here too, John.... but there are loopholes....to some extent....but, you can replace the rotted out bottom plate and rusty bolts... it's not an easy job, but it's not too bad...BTDT.

yeah - I have though about other places. Its probably just that the US seems familiar I suppose, with it being on TV , on films etc. I have a few American V8's :) and the price of fuel for one thing makes the States appealing. Its £1.05 GBP for 1 litre of petrol here.

Anyway - I guess it will never happen - so let's not hijack Shaggies thread ;)

Hey, I won't have a stand-alone "shop" but we are (finally) moving to a new house with a 3 car garage!!!!! No more driveway antics!

I get the far end of the garage for my "project" car, and my '65 daily driver gets one of the "normal" bays.

My delemma now is whether to hope for another warm day like we had last week (almost 80) in the Dallas area and paint the garage floor, or cover it in plastic until spring and paint it them. Dallas weather is so fickle. The slab may be a bit green to paint anyway. It is a brand new house.

It stayed in the 40s yesterday (Saturday) and it drizzled a tiny bit of rain on us but we made a lot of progress. My dad came by to help and so did a couple of friends of mine. We got the trusses all up and most of the sheathing on the walls. Still a LOT to do but it's all wet and nasty outside so I'm taking the day off. I updated the web page with all of the pics here:

Have you seen those dome-like sky lights? Each one sits on a short tower on the roof (for the snowy climates to put the dome above the snow.) and have a highly reflective flexible tube to pipe the light below the ceiling rafters. The light falls on a thin translucent plastic sheet. You can put it where you want it.

/imagines a pair of those in the roof of the new Shagmobile...

Interesting idea. I had not thought about skylights but I could put a few of them in and get a little extra natual lighting that way. Looks like Home Depot has some basic skylights for about $120 apiece. Hmmm... A big fluorescent lighting fixture runs about that much. I wouldn't really need one on a tower, but am gonna consider getting some regular ones. That would be kinda cool. Thanks for the idea.

OT, Michael - ever get into Rune Quest?

Nope. Is there something resembling a bug with two dome skylights on the roof in it?

An electrician friend tiped me off to this-Regular flourescent fixtures flicker like mad when weather is cool/cold. Use "high output" 8 foot fixtures to prevent being driven nuts. Mine have been flawless for 10 years.

Something like this?
