Power loss in 4th on a 74 Std Bug

Hi all,

Seems that after years of sitting around, our 74 Bug doesn't want to move like it used to in 4th. We did a valve job and compression test and all checks out fine there. We think there's something up with the choke on the carb because we have to pump the gas more than we think we should a few times to get it to start. Also - not sure, but I think it's possible that if the choke isn't closing all the way once warmed up, it could cause the power loss at higher speeds (true?).

The carb could use a going over anyway (not stock, it's a Holley 5200 series, double barrel) so we plan to rebuild it once the rebuild kit comes in. I personally have no experience with rebuilding carbs and my husband can't remember from years and years ago when he was a kid what all gets replaced with the rebuild kit. Wondering if a standard carb rebuild addresses the choke area? Could a rebuild potentially fix our issue?

Thanks in advance!
