Repairing signal canceling ring

My 70 KG signals don't 'cancel'. I wrapped some electrical tape around the finger that's on the steering wheel mounting hub. That seems to work except that the signal arm is stiffer and doesn't work as smooth. Obviously the tape isn't made to side. Is there a better fix for this or should I buy a new one?
