Bug just back from the shop - wouldn't idle - remember?
Here's what they found:
Intake manifolds (outer) were leaking big time. The rebuilt carb I bought & put on was leaking badly - badly worn out and should not have been rebuilt.
Anyway, thanks for your help - expensive lession, but at least I found a good mechanic!
