1980 B27e leaks coolant

Is anyone familiar enough to know, are there core plugs in the "valley" between the heads? The water pump looks new-ish and hoses seem OK, but there are always coolant puddles on top of the block. Some leak-stop stemmed the flow but it will have to be fixed and would be nice to know what's there before starting the performance of removing manifolds etc. It's really hard to see down there. Yes I know the engine's a nightmare. TIA.

Urk. I'd suggest that the pipes going to the back of the water pump are a likely area for leakage. IIRC, there's a Y-shaped casting from the back of the motor and a heater hose from the firewall going under the inlet manifold and hose clamped to the casting that the water pump bolts to.

Sounds like it's time for an engine conversion. :-p

Yes that's right, and plenty of opportunity for leaks. But it all looks OK... as far as I can see using a mirror - it's only actually wet on top of the block, no sign of dripping from anywhere above. I'm expecting more grief getting at it than actually fixing. Engine replacement might be an option some time, but I've been advised here it's not so straightforward.

Dried coolant "lights"up with UV light. You can check the source that way.

That's a good tip, I never knew. I'll try it.
