2004 Volvo V70 T5

Speaking for myself, I've got a 2002 T5. Turbo lag is non-existent compared to other turbo's I've driven. Maybe others have different views though.

With Saabs, I've read that the automatics are very well matched to the torque curve of the turbos, and are the recommended transmission choice.

Mine's the 5 speed auto (non-Geartonic).

The beauty of the T5 is that you've got maximum torque across the entire rev range from 2500rpm upwards, don't know whether this is the case with the Saab which is slighly less powerful anyway. This matches it perfectly to an auto box. Yes, auto's have their detractors, and there may be a slight loss of power, but the auto is sooooooo smooth! Except for under maximum acceleration, only the rev counter will tell you whether it's changed gear!

Thanks for the confirmation, Nick. This is as I had heard before.

Have same model, have not noticed any lag. Have Geartronic and also find it smooth shifting except if you catch it upshifting when you want to accelerate. It tends to downshift a little roughly. Not a big issue.
