240 '85 any improvements available for windscreen wipers?

Our 240 wagon is nearly 20 years old and a few things seem to spoil an otherwise very pleasurable car.

The front wipers seem very inadequate in size and sweep. Can this be addressed with a simple mod?

Thanks, and best regards,

Jim Kelly.

Are they stock sized? I've never had any complaints about the wipers on a

240, their sweep covers virtually the entire windshield, if you put the size used on the '91 and later windshields on an older car they even brush the trim. I'm not really sure how they could be improved.

The driver's side stops about 40mm (1.5") short of the pillar and seems to come to rest about the same distance from 'home'. Had thought of using longer blades but at the top of their stroke they would brush the trim. I guess no harm would be done? James, are you suggesting getting '91 blades for my '85 model?

Cheers,

Jim

No if you do that they brush the trim and it causes a wear spot, but it gets done by accident on many cars. What you're describing sounds like normal operation, I guess I just never saw anything unusual about it, my 240 has the best wipers of any car I've driven, which is not nessesarily saying a lot, but to me they work just fine.

I find that cleaning the windshield and applying "Rainx" works great -- often you don't even need to use the wipers as the rain beads up and blows off the windshield.

Other than that I have an '82 245 and an '86 244 and no problems with the stock wipers even without the Rainx.
