240 heater fan

Just replaced heater fan. Got one from a scrap yard, after getting old heater unit out, split the casing and installed good fan. Problem was as we have seen before the bottom bearing had seized due to crud gathering around it, causing motor brushes to overheat and melt there mountings. I siliconed a tube in place, the kind you get on screen wash systems, the end is aimed at the bearing, led it through casing, (siliconed both sides of hole so it is held fast), and terminated in glove box, in future I will give it a blast of WD40, (using the wee red tube taped on the tin), and this should clear any crud and lubricate the bearing, hopefully prolonging the life. I feel that WD40 performs better than oil as it does not create a puddle that attracts crud. And the aerosol action forces crud out. The other mod. made was I siliconed a piece of stainless steel mesh in the top of the air intake to try and reduce the amount of crud coming in as there was a lot of dead leaves in both units, leaves give of a corrosive when wet, so I hope this helps others and stops me having to skin my knuckles again on this task.
