coolant light S-70

My wife has a '99 Volvo S-70, glt.

Last week, the coolant light came on, indicating low coolant.

Found that the coolant reservoir has a crack in the bottom, and was leaking coolant, until the coolant level light came on.

Replaced the tank, and the hose.

Tank as a float in it, removed the sensor from the old tank, put into in the new, and installed it.

However, the coolant light stays on regardless of the coolant level.

not leaking, coolant level stays some.

So how do I get the coolant light to go out?

any ideas?

Exactly the same thing happened to me on our 98 V40 T4. Engine overheated and car was towed to the service person as roadside assistance didn't want to fill up the tank for fear of cracking the head. Service guy said the expansion tank had cracked and it was replaced. On the way home though, temp just kept rising and I had to return (once car cooled down of course). Thermostat had also failed and when replaced - problem gone. Maybe check yours?? Let me know how you go.

You probably have a defective sensor. It may have been close to failure in the old tank and all the jostling in moving from one tank to another may have killed it.
