How do I remove the shifter knob from the AT shift stick?
I want to replace a broken plastic housing that covers the "hole" from the passenger compartment to the underneath tranny "compartment.
Thanks.

I just did this on my 244 GL with an automatic transmission about a month ago. I hope I remember. there is a chrome plastic piece on the left side of the shift stick thing. you have to take that off, unscrew the plastic cover that shows what gear you're in and lift that up. under that is a brass colored piece holding the reverse lockout button in. you need to pull that to the left, which will pull it out, then pry up the lockout button on top of the knob. then pry out the overdrive button and disconnect the wires. I think that you can just slide the knob off after that. there is also a safety switch that lights up the plastic housing and turns on your back up lights that might have to be taken off in order to get to the brass piece but I don't think so. if you do, put the car in park, lift up the housing, lift the safety thing up and disconnect the wires. it should come out. I hope this is helpful
