I have a '87 360 GLT that overheats on long journeys if the fan is not blowing hot air at you. I have flushed out the radiator and changed the thermostat neither of which did any good. Im prepared to live with it like this because i mostly drive around town, but Ive read that the engine running hot might be a sign of head gasket failure. Is this likely to happen if i dont get it looked at?

I would have said a failed viscous fan coupling, but it would tend to overheat in town when air speed is low rather than on a run.
Sounds like poor circulation usually caused by a blocked radiator though. Feel over the rad when the engine is hot and see if there are any cool areas. if so, then its still blocked.

Definately doubt it, it barely needed unless towing or standing still.
The 360 is pretty fault tolerant and doesn't usually overheat even when the radiator is half full unless you are attempting top speed on the motorway. If it was the head gasket you would be losing water suddenly or there would be alot of steam (thats why it runs hot).
Check circulation by spinning the pump by hand with the top hose off. Other odd causes are slipped timing belt, loose drive belts, broken water pump veins. Silt in radiator is common but you should have noticed alot of brown water when you flushed it. If it was clean then no need to worry.
