quick question

Just a complete guess, as I've never seen the interior of an S80....

Being beside the temperature readout It might be an ice warning - my

850 has a little red light there which comes on when the temperature drops below 3ºC.

Does that match up? Can't think why the symbol would be a sun, so I'm likely wrong!

Cheers,

AJ

I have a 2002 S80. There is a light that comes on that looks like a sun. It is red and is located beside the temperature indicator. I have looked in my manual but can't seem to find out what it means. Any body know what it means?

Maybe it's not a sun but a snowflake? ;-)

Gettin cold over there? Ice warning below 3C (37F). Goes off when it's really cold.

Actually a very useful feature if you live where the road frequently ices. It warns you when the temperature down near the road is approaching freezing.

And Volvo made it red, a color that intuitively means cold :)

That's interesting - I did briefly wonder if they'd take account of that, but decided they'd probably not bother going to the extra trouble. I've not had my 850 throughout a winter yet but even so I doubt it'll get cold enough here to observe this. -2ºC is the lowest so far!

... and if wet becomes very slippery as it ices up. If you notice, the freeze warning light goes out again a several degrees below freezing when the ice on the road is solid enough that it is not as slippery. Ice is most slippery when it is wet.

It is run from the "outside temperature gauge", the sensor for which I believe is low down in the front bumper somewhere on the 850 at least. Cars with ECC have extra temperature sensors in other positions in the car, but I doubt they'd be used for the ice warning!

It does go out below -3 degrees C, -26 degrees C is the lowest so far here, on the first drive home after I bought it.. :)

BTW, the ECC does not work so well under those conditions, the front window kept fogging up, had to set the fan from auto to manual ;D

Ohh I see, down by the road... Not exactly specified, I thought it was rigged into the outside temperature gauge, and just warned if its getting cold out.
