Rad Plub Blew

Earlier I posted a message concerning the rad plug for the fan thermostat. I have now changed the plug and seal but are curious to know why it would have blown. The obvious was a deteriation etc of the plug or the engine pressured enough for it to blow. If this is the case the same could happen again or something else could blow in the engine. Any advise on what I should do.

when the plug in the radiator of my '89 240 started leaking about a year ago, I figured it was just that the rubber had deteriorated. I fixed it by installing an adjustable "freeze plug" from Pep Boys, about $3 as I recall. Quick, cheap fix, and has worked so far! Basically, a length of rubber tube with metal fittings on each end and a screw running thru it. As you tighten the fitting, the ends are brought together, compressing the rubber outward and sealing the opening.....
