Recommended replacment Air Filter

I have read reports that replacing the stock air filters can improve air intake and help engine performance and efficiency.

Looking at the K & N website, the only air filters to suit a 1998 V70 seem to be either for the TDI or Turbo Petrol engines.

Does anybody know if they will fit the standard petrol engines as well? Mine is 10v 2.5.

If not, can anybody recommend another air filter manufacturer?

Thanks in advance

"Performance" air filters are a gimmick, use a stock Volvo paper filter, it's the best you can do, seriously. Someone recently did flow testing of filters and found the drop across a paper filter is negligible, someone else did a comprehensive evaluation of filtering and the performance filters let by substantially more crud.

I've always felt it was better to replace an inexpensive paper filter often, rather than an expensive after-market filter seldom. I put a new STP or FRAM paper air filter in each year, just before inspection time (about 10-12,000 miles/year), about $6-8 depending on where I get it. I also replace the 4 sparkplugs (another $8) at the same time, and clean and re-gap them at about

5,000 miles. Just did both jobs this afternoon, total cost was $17 and about an hour of my time.

Don't bother. Keep a fresh Mann or Volvo filter in there and stop worrying about it. Few of the claims of increased performance with fancy air filter swaps are verifiable. Volvo uses a well designed air intake with a nice large filter area.
