S40 Auto - 3 problems - are they related???

I have a S40 2.0i CD AUTO (96-98) and recently I have began to encounter 3 problems and was wondering if they could be related.

  1. Occassionaly, on a cold start, she will stall when I engage reverse gear, and then won't start again. It seems to coincide with damp weather.

  1. After a cold start, when pulling out of first junction there will be a sudden loss of mechanical power, revs drop as if she is going to stall, after a second or two she suddenly springs back into life (bit scarey when road is busy and traffic approaching fast from rear!).

  2. The cooling fan seems to always run on now after the engine is turned off; I know this normal behaviour on some cars (turbos etc) and I had noticed it previously on hot days but now happens all the time. It turns offf after a few minutes.

Any theories greatly received.

#3 happens when the thermostat sticks open. The computer thinks the problem is with the engine temperature sensor because the engine is not warming up as it should. It then assumes certain temperatures at startup, and a certain warmup rate, which if wrong will possibly cause problems 1 & 2. Put in a new thermostat.
