V70 estate question?

I think my 740 is a little larger than the V70, and while you can just fit a door in (in fact I've fitted a stack of 6 doors in), it won't go flat on the floor - you have to move the front passenger seat forward some, and have your shoulder adjacent to the ends of the doors as you sit in the driver's seat. I'd reckon it's more difficult in a V70.

Should fit in on an angle... might hit your head tho.

Yes, I've carried them in my 1999 V70 - but they won't go flat on the floor.

You need to lean the backrest of the passenger seat forwards (there are some catches at the back/bottom of the seat to allow it to do this) and then rest one end of the doors on the sloping seat back. It means no passengers can be carried at the same time - and the driver has to drive very steadily to avoid decapitation!

I have the '01 model and you can't do it with the door closed. You could lash the door down on the door(s).

Tecnically you could do it if you were skinny, but if the air bag went off it would kill you, so I say it is impossible with the door closed.

Are you seriously only considering buying the car if it will fit some doors in??? Jees, What is the world coming to? If you like the car, then buy it, and get the doors delivered!! It ain't rocket science......

It has to be a mighty narrow door to fit on just the passenger seat.

You don't buy a vehicle and just do what it will do; you find out which vehicles do what you want to do and then buy one.

The same is true in buying anything. You don't buy something unless you know it will do what you need to do.

It *doesn't* just fit on the backrest. of course - it extends either side of it. But with a 2'6" (standard UK internal) door loaded slightly diagonally, there's still (just!) room for the driver alongside it.

Just found info on the Vauxhall Vectra estate, and it has 2046mm loading capacity with rear seats folded. Surprising, I just assumed that Volvo estates were bigger.

You can probably just fit them in with the passenger seat moved forward. I regularly carry 2.1m lengths of timber inside mine.

But if you pay the extra $100 for a roof rack - no problem.

On my V70 98mod. I can fold the front passengerseat's backrest forward. I don't know if this apply's for every model. There are to small handels on the back close to the bottom of my passenger seat.

As much as all the contributions to this thread earn a thanks, but why don't you use a trailer? Small one will do as i hear from your wishes. Cheap, handy, multi purpose, clean, keeps your car undamaged!

Just an idea.

Since you're using inches, you'll propably won't live anywhere near Lanaken Belgium, or else you could borrow my trailer or, if it'd be nearby I even drive you with my 1999 V70, thus convincing you what a great car it is. I just might load my two saint bernards in the back so you'd have to believe how spacy it is.

p.s., Try putting the door on the roof. A door sounds just like perfect for a load-carrier on the roof. They arent that expensive. Once again, if you live nearby you can borrow mine!
