Wheels: what fits what

I'm not 100% sure, but I'd say that Volvo wheels are all hub centric (like most European cars).

Offset is another thing, so I wouldn't go looking at Mustang or Jeep wheels.

The correct wheel on the car makes the difference between a car that is a pleasure to drive, and one that is dangerous. (wrong offset can cause tires to rub against brake flex lines, or outer wheel lip if too much track width, etc..)

Volvo uses an odd bolt spacing, however anything from a 140 to a 940 from at least '72-'92 will go right on. Some of the newer cars had ABS so they needed 15" wheels but yours doesn't so you're home free. IMO the nicest looking wheels you can find for that car are the Virgo 15" alloys that came on 240 Turbo's and GLT's. That's just my opinion though, the Draco and Hydra rims the 740T's got are nice too. The 760's got rims that were a bit more classy looking but not the sporty look I prefer, just look around there's a lot out there.

I agree with your sentiments re the 240 15" turbo wheels. I liked them so much I put them on our '93 240 "Classic" wagon. It came with 14" mags, and (note this) ABS................

The wheels are 5-stud on a 4.25"PCD. The normal offset for the 240 is 20mm, but earlier 2-series ran 25mm (and hence 10mm narrower track). The Volvo wheel studs are 1/2UNF.

I have a feeling that some of the 7 and 9 series wheels might have a different offset - I'm sure that someone will be able to confirm that. The wheel size on genuine Volvo wheels is usually cast into the front of the rim, such as 6x15x20 cast into Virgos.

The Ford and Chrysler cars will generally run 5-stud 4.5"PCD, while most GM 5-stud are on a 4.75"PCD. The _big_ cars are 5"PCD. IOW, none will fit.

Since you're not in Australia, the following information won't be of much use to you but may be to others reading... The stud pattern is the same as early Holdens (FE to HG) and Toranas. The studs on the Holdens are only 7/16UNF, so you need different nuts. This usually means that Volvo wheels end up on trailers, as the Holden stud pattern is very common on trailers.

Some 240s were fitted with 14" wheels, generally steel, although alloys were available in this rim size. The 15" rims from 700/900/90 series will fit but the offset is slightly different. IIRC it doesn't make that much difference, as the

Actually, early model 2-series steel wheels on _sedans_ were 25mm offset.

AFAIK, all the 2-series mags and the rims fitted to _wagons_ were 20mm offset!

I don't think that any changes to the 2-series ever made it likely to have tyre clearance simply because of 25mm offset rims.
