I recently started popping "radio" fuses on my '84 GTI. There is a short somewere in the line, and I'm having a little trouble finding it.
The devices that I can see that are affected by this are:
- Tach/Fuel Gauge/Temp Gauge/LEDs in the main instrument cluster
- Radio
- 3-gauge cluster near shifter on the floor (though the clock continues to work)
All of the wiring I can get to with some ease appears to be intact. I have removed the radio and 3-gauge cluster from the line, and the fuse still pops instantly.
I am guessing that the problem lies in or behind my main instrument cluster, but before I go digging that out of the dash, I am wondering if there are other devices on this circuit.
All else is well with the car.
Any ideas? Anyone have a schematic for the radio line?
I appreciate any advice.
Thanks.
