84 Scirocco-oil runs very hot at 80 MPH????

Hi all;

My 84 Scirocco; oil runs at about 130 cels when I hit 75-80 MPH for a sustained time. If I run the AC it near redlines. Could the oil cooler be bad? does anybody know where I can get an aftermarket cooler? BTW, I am running a low-temp themo and fan switch. The temp of the coolant doesn't seem to be out of the ordinary, just the oil.

Thanks to all in advance.

Tony

My 84 Jetta GLI is the same way - "they all do that". I use synthetic oil and don't worry about it. Engine is over 320K miles and still runs great.

The original owner of my '84 GLi put a external cooler on in the first year he owned it using a adapter between the filter and the original mount and run through a small exchanger mounted behind and under the front bumper. It used to run at 100deg cel. Now it hits 110C but that is only in town driving, maybe a bit higher when the outside temp hits 95+ degrees.
