89 Jetta Improvements

Just got Power Steering on my 89 Jetta, 8 hours and ~$280 (USD) later, I'm a happy man (but my wallet is not happy). Got all the parts from the yard, installed the pump, pulley's myself, but had to go to a mechanic with his hydraulic lift to drop the subframe properly and install the rack. (Would be too dangerous for me to do it in my home garage...) Besides, without those air-tools, it'll be quite a workout. The rack, pump and hoses, brackets, pulleys and belts cost me roughly ~$125, but the boots on the rack needs replacement, and one of the tie-rod ends need replacement... These things jacked up the cost.. Labour is like... ~$85 including alignment (Cheap labour over here.)

Still trying to get used to the new feeling, it now drives like.... a toy instead of a man-machine.. ha...

Also, I got all three engine mounts replaced with hydraulic ones... Originally, only the transmission mount is hydraulic (which is in 2 pieces when the mechanic took it out today), and now, all three are hydraulic... it doesn't have that rough feeling (rattling/vibrating/shaking) anymore....

Kinda cool, but I feel like I have to drive responsibly now... (used to think, well, it'll break sooner or later, why bother being careful??)

I have both power and non power assist vw's, I can honestly say that the power assist steering is nicer to drive but the fun factor and sensitivity of the manual is missing.

Guess what, the mechanic pulled the speedo cable when he dropped the subfram, and I drove around without the speedo for a while before I put it back in myself.

When I was driving without the speedometer, I noticed that the trip meter is exactly on 666.6, and of course, it wouldn't turn since the speedo cable is not connected... freaky.. and it distracted me everytime I looked at the trip meter.. Of course, it's now connected, and 666.6 is no longer.
