93 fox running hot and intermittent oil pressure light

I just recently bought this car to use as a winter car. the ngine warms up very quickly and the temp gauge sits just below the highest indictator. i have let the car idle like this and the indicator wont move any higher. the engine doesnt feel too hot.. ive felt the dipstick too and i can touch the oil without being burned. could this be a bad thermostat? if the thermostat was stuck closed wouldnt the temp keep going up? ive already bought a new one and am going to replace it but if that doesnt solve the problem what else do you suggest i check?

one more thing.. every once in awhile my oil pressure indicator will flash when i am idling.. if i give a bit of gas the light goes away.. any thoughts?

thanks!

ok this is odd. before finding out that the thermostat is on the water pump i removed the hose connecting to the block and lost some fluid. now the car runs with the temp indicator just to teh right of center. could too much coolant have been the problem?

Nope, not too much coolant. You might have had an air lock in the system preventing proper operation. About the oil pressure, there could be a few causes. Wrong weight oil, bad pressure switch, idle is too low so the pump isn't generating enough pressure, or the oil pump could be on it's way out.
