'98 Golf VR6 Won't Start - Coil Pack ?

I've been procrastinating about changing my coil pack. My car's been running rough in wet weather on and off for about a month. Since the wires look fine I figured it was the coil pack. Now my car won't start. It doesn't even roll over : ( Could a bad coil pack do that ? I hooked up my VAG-COM and it gave me these DTCs :

VAG-COM Version: Release 303.1

Control Module Part Number: 021 906 259 N Component and/or Version: MOTRONIC M5.9 HS V03 Software Coding: 00000 Work Shop Code: WSC 00066

8 Faults Found: 16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected P0300 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent 16690 - Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected P0306 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent 16688 - Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected P0304 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent 16686 - Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected P0302 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent 16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected P0300 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent 16690 - Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected P0306 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent 16686 - Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected P0302 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent 16688 - Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected P0304 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

I'm hoping that simply installing a new coil pack will get my car running again, but I'm wondering if I'm being too optimistic...

TIA,

If your plug wires and spark plugs are good (ie- non aftermarket crap), then the coil would be the next place to look. Not like the VR6 coil packs haven't had issues. And with 4 bolts, it is a pretty simple job to do.

Also notice that have of your cyclinders are misfiring, 2, 4 and 6. Notice on the coil pack how they will all be on the same side. Now what could be a common factor here? Hmmmmmm. :) I think ditching that coil is going to be a pretty safe bet.

Later.
