Most likely cause: failure to read owner's manual. Two musts:
1. Do NOT put gas in with the engine running. The car must be off.
2. Make sure you hear several clicks when you replace the gas cap.
The fuel system is pressurized, which is the reason for 1 & 2.
If you are guilty of either of the above, the light will eventually clear
