Loose connection somewhere. Will need either a main dealer or someone with VAG-COM to reset it once you've found the source of the problem.

For now it means you don't have air bags.

Does it flash, if so it may be flashing a code telling you want is wrong. In other cars you may need to read the error codes from the car's computer. A common problem is a sensor that has gone bad, or a loose connections somewhere.

Nope, never seen that on a VW! I'm clueless.

It means there's something wrong with the airbag.

This is pretty common, judging by all the posts I've read in various places. My 2001 Golf did this under warranty. The dealer replaced the wiring harness under the seat and the problem vanished. It's definitely a safety issue, so even if you're out of warranty you should try to get VW to pay for the fix.

Assuming you have airbags, somethings bad with them.

I DONT have airbags and the light sometimes comes on when starting the car if the battery is low :)

Hey... What kind of car do you have. I have a 2005 New Beetle Convertible and my airbag light came on about three weeks ago. My car has been in the shop ever since waiting for the replacement part... a module under the passenger seat. Ridiculous how long its taking to get the part... They put me in a loaner in the meantime but I want my Beetle back.
