Desperately seeking input.... Any ideas????
I have a '93 Golf turbo diesel (I bought it in Apr. with 130,000 km). It has started to sound like a dump truck. My mechanic is scratching his head. Says the lifters feel fine, lots of oil pressure, injectors are ok.
Anyone have any thoughts or similar experience?
Sorry if this is stating the obvious (I am actually not very smart :^P), but have you gone over the exhaust system?
Have you changed timing belt? If it has never been done, it is well due, and a worn belt which can allow timing to go off a bit, can increase engine noise.
Any air leaks in fuel system?
I have only dealt with non-turbos, so not sure if there are major diffs, but the cloth covered fuel return lines can wear, or the rubber plug on the end injector will deteriorate. Air in system can make things LOUD!
