Recharging the Air Conditioning

Apr 16, 2006 1 Replies

I have a 1999 Mark iv Golf 1.9 TDI ..uk specification and the air conditioning after seven years is a bit weak

i have a recharge kit for 134A refrigerant coolant but it comes with no instructions..... where is the recharge point...... there only appears to be one suitable point which is an aluminium pipe in the engine bay that come out of the engine bulkhead to the right hand side ( looking into the engine bay) just under the wind screeen

So is this the right recharge point...... or is it like other VW bits hiden in the depth of the engine bay

The UK Car amanual by ?Haynes just says.....should be recharge by your VW dealer

any help on how to recharge the 134a would be appreciated

thank BB for the advise, yes the one i found was the High side service point ( high pressure recharge point )

The low side service point ( low Pressure recharge point ) is as you say ,is located above the Air conditioning Radiator at the front of the engine bay on the UK spec as well

Just out of interst as you asked why "Skodaman", is because my parters car is a Skoda Octavia 1998 1.9tdi estate, The layout of the Skoda engine bay with the VAG 1.9tdi AGR engine is indetical to the VW 1.9 tdi ALH....the only difference is the A/c drive belt and Skoda badge,,,, and $3000 ( =A32000) off the price of a VW.....and i think it drives better as its slightly lower profile
