Jetta 80s or 1993 and up. Will engine fit to all?

Question

I have 1996 Jetta turbo diesel. That car engine replacement. Somebodytold me, that I can use any engine from VW Jetta or Golf, from1982-1997.

That sounds about right, if you mean the 1.6 diesel ,or 1.6  turbo diesel will go in on the mounts. or the early style 1.9 turbo diesel , If thats what you  have I think. I believe   its years 77-92 all diesel types. and 96-97 Passat TDI, and 97-99.5 Golf Jettas TDIs. are interchangable. There were no diesels produced 92-96 in the US. There may be some very minor modifications  needed to accomodate the Euro Spec engine, going to the older chassis, which is what I have done. However , going older to newer, should be just as easy.    If you mean put a gas engine in, I know that some will work too, however I know nothing at all about VW gas engines..

ThanxMy sitution is, that I have Jetta 1996 turbo diesel. Engine is gone. Ihave diesel engine from 1991 Golf (non turbo).

it should be fine.  the main difference is that TDI engines have a lot more electronics involved whereas non-TDI engines had none.

Yes that swap is a good one. I wasnt concerned about the electronics as the later TDI blocks are different then the early style blocks that I listed.  A lot of things don't line up. The 92-96 Euro diesels are all interchangable too. The later TDIs  98-05 New Bettles and 99.5-05 Golf/Jettas aren't.
