My daughter has a 99 New Beetle. This car has been a piece of poo-poo since day 1.
She has had repeated problems with the transmission not shifting properly and has had to have the "Speed sensor" and all sort of work down on the tranny to resolve this problem.
Recently she was stopped at a light and a drunk driver plowed into the rear of her, pushing her 5 feet out into the intersection. the speedo and odometer were working fine before this, and the check engine light wasn't on. (This is in Massachusetts, a "no fault" insurance state.)
The next day she noticed that the speedo and odometer weren't working and the check engine light had come on.
The insurance adjuster said that the "check engine light and speedo" weren't accident related. I said they were. So I went to the VW dealer and they diagnosed the problems. They said I have a sheared gear in the transmission, it will cost $1000 dollars to fix, and they "don't know" if it is accident related on not.
Does it feel like I am getting the saft here?
Anyone have any advice on how to proceed? I am thinking of going directly to the drunk drivers insurance company, but I am annoyed that everyone is just shrugging the shoulders and expecting me to just say "oh well, my bad luck".
Ideas?
