Why does Bambi hate me?/ Cracked fuel distributor

Before I go into my problem let me tell you that I have nothing against poor innocent deer but why do they keep attacking my car!

I was in Vermont over the weekend as I do every weekend. I had the misfortune of running over a deer that someone else had hit. This is the 2nd time in 3 years that this has happened to me.

The first time was with my 94 Jetta, it tore off the exhaust system.

This time it was my 90 Golf, all it did this time was crack the fuel distributor box. It's made of cheap plastic but I guess VW never envisioned hitting a deer with it.

So my question is this, it appears to be a simple replacement but are they expensive? I mean even in a bone yard what do they cost?

Any tips on R&R ?

If it just cracked the plastic box, that part is cheap, and replacement is easy.

I expect you can get it for $5 - $10. If you want the whole thing, with the air valve and all, you might pay $25.

Changing it out should be pretty straighforward. I took mine out ('87 GLI) and gutted it for more airflow. Easy afternoon job. Texas Parts Guy

Haven't pulled it yet.

Fuel is leaking out or was till I clamped the feed line.

If it's leaking is it more than the box?

haha...a dead deer darted out in front of you and "attacked" your car - that's awesome.

AFAIK, the fuel distributor is under the hood, on top of the airbox/filter. I assume then you are talking about the pump/accumulator/filter stuff under the car on the passenger side? Damaged pump or accumulator can be expensive, filter is cheap, the rest is just plumbing but any of that stuff can be a pain to replace.

Yes. Figure out where it's leaking and go from there. Texas Parts Guy
