sb chevys/s10 transmissions

What stock transmissions will directly bolt up to a sb chevy that came in an 83 s 10? i have an 83 s10 with a 1.9 and a 4 speed manual, but i want to put a sb in it without a tranny, driveshaft and yoke swap. Can anybody help?

I wouldn't trust any of the early S-10 stock transmissions behind a 350. A turbo 350 will do the job, short tail shaft I believe, but measure the length of the one coming out and match it up. Turbo 400 will work but you will need the yoke from the turbo 400 donor, and then Napa has a u-joint that will let you put the slip yoke on the stock drive shaft.

700R4 will do the job, most performance shops have a kit for the lock up torque converter. This would be the route I would go. Hooker has the best swap kit, motor mounts, wiring harness extensions, the works. can be ordered with or with out the headers. If engine and tranny are ready to go, swap can be done by two people in a home garage in a week-end. Heavy duty 4.3 V-6 rad will cool it, get fan shroud from wrecking yard. Whitelightning

In short, do NOT use the transmission that bolted up to the 1.9. Not only will it not bolt up, it just won't take the abuse of a SBC...

Very helpful in these swaps. I did mine using a 700R4 with some beefin up done. Only running 300 HP and the

700R4 has been holding up well.

Any of them that came behind a 4.3 will work just fine.
