Bizarre Ram 1500 issues

I am having a problem with a newly installed (by the local Dodge dealership) ECM. I think the voltage regulation is faulty. I have "overcharged" two brand new batteries in the last month.

I think the alternator is giving the battery too much juice.

I have had issues starting the truck after filling up with gas (purge solenoid ?)...

I have had issues (in the rain...dunno if that matters) with warning lights then complete engine loss)...

The place where I bought this says that, readings from the computer appear normal. I dont get it. I know it's just a matter of time until this truck fails me again.

Please help

Have you ruled out bad wires/connections between the alternator and the ECM (vs. bad ECM)? Voltage at battery with engine running is ______?

Did you replace this PCM for a different problem and now have a charging problem? You don't specify what year truck you have, but if you got a reman PCM from Chrysler (and they don't reman them another company does and puts Mopar on em) they are pure junk. You could have gotten someone else's problem when it was replaced from another vehicle. If you think its the PCM tell the dealer to get you another one.

I THINK the PCM was originally replaced cuz it wasn't sending a spark for ignition. Engine would crank over but not start.

I wouldn't be surprised if it is a re-man PCM. Especially when the dealership basically told me to get on my hands and knees and thank them for putting an extra 600 parts and labor into the truck. I thought that was rather cheap for a new PCM installation...but hey...I dont know...Anyway...72 hrs post install of yet another new battery, same results...so Tuesday I'll have it towed to the LOCAL Dodge dealership and tell them what's going on...and I dont want any remanufactured bullshit.

Thank you Glenn.

Im also going to tell the Dodge guys to check the voltage coming into and coming out of the alternator (and to the battery). If I just bite the bullet and get 1. All wiring inspected, 2. Incomin g / Outgoing Alternator voltage, 3 NEW PCM installed, Im praying that will fix this problem once and for all and get this damn truck to be reliable.

I still Don't see what year this vehicle is!!! You can only get what Chrysler has, and the older vehicles will get a reman PCM. I have been thru this so many times, putting a part on to fix a problem and create another problem with the one I put on. If you call the phone number that is on the warranty slip you will see the name of the company that is "supposed" to reman these things. I have called them on a few occasions and told them what kind of crap they put back out on the market. When I get a new reman PCM with another problem I open it up and put a letter inside it with a few choice words that I use. I still don't get why Chrysler doesn't step up to the plate and say if you want to use our name on your reman parts, make sure they get tested.

"Go figure"

lol...sorrry max. It's a 1998 Ram 1500 short bed.

Thank you for the help. I think the whole "fix one problem, start another" is exactly what's going on here.

If the part was a remanufactured part the Part # would have an "R" just before the rest of the number. Just curious, how many miles are on this vehicle?

77K.

I pray I didn't buy myself a "Lemon", but I think (with your and others' help) I can discuss things with the Dodge techs at the local dealership and get things fixed.

If it was still within 8/80 that controller would have been under warranty. do you know when the original in-service date was?
