brake job question

We're working on a 1990 Plymouth Horizon, replacing the front brakes. Is there any other way to remove the brake pads than to take the caliper apart?

Thanks! Lisa (typing for Jeff, who is elbow deep in a brake job)

Take the caliper apart? No.

You (Jeff) will need to remove the caliper from the steering knuckle (one or two bolts), pry the inner pad and piston back a little to allow the caliper to be wiggled free.

Really doesn't sound like Jeff is too familiar with doing brake work, are you certain that this is a good idea?

He's been fixing our brakes for many years. This is the first time he's worked on this car. And apparently, that is the only way to remove the pads for *this* car.

What you described, he says, is the way of every brake job he's ever done. That's why he was so surprised by the way these brakes are put together.

Either way, he's already finished the job. Thanks for taking the time to respond!
