2006 Explorer(V8)

Just read a review of the 2006 Explorer with the new V8(this is the engine previously used in the Lincoln Aviator). The testers (Car and Driver magazine) praised the new engine but commented that Ford has electronically limited its top speed to 98 mph. Is Ford worried about something? And, how common is this top speed limiting?

From what I know about the Mustang, it is limited to the speed rating of the tires. The Explorer might be because of the more obvious....

Not the same engine as the Lincoln. The Lincoln used the NA Mustang Cobra 32 Valve 4.6, 06 Explorer has the 24 valve motor as used in the Mustang GT. Top speed is limited due to tires and other factors.
