Removing pitman arm/power steering pump

howdy! well, the power steering on my 94 F-150 finally quit on me. I checked to see if the leak is in either the supply or relief lines, but it appears to be leaking at the actual gear/pump assembly itself. So im ready to replace it, but i cant get the pump/gear removed from the pitman arm. I have been unable to pull the arm off the spline of the steering gear, even using a wheel puller!

i have been equally unsuccessful taking the arm off the actual steering actuator that moves the wheels. I have to get this part off so i can replace it and fix my leak! any recommendations?

Is it the pump or the output shaft leaking?

The pitman arm puller and a BFH, ya gotta really whack it hard...

If it is similar to my 91 F150, the shaft is grooved. Replacing the seal will help for a short while but it will leak again if you don't replace the shaft. (major PITA + $)

If I were to do it again, I'd install a "seal saver" (thin stainless steel sleeve that fits over the shaft). Call a bearing supply house.

Many loan out free...Autozone for one...Pay a deposit, but you get it back.. I bought one about 5 years ago. Didn't cost too much...Maybe 10-15 bucks...?? MK
