101 flasher unit wiring issue

I noticed tonight that the indicator warning light on the 101 is very slightly on all the time (just bright enough that you can only tell it is on when it is dark). It still flashes when you indicate, but not when you have the hazards on. I noticed that if i unplug the flasher unit it goes off.. since it is driven directly off the flasher this isnt too surprising!

Can anybody advise me of where i should be looking to solve this? or have any good ideas? Earth on the flasher seems good which was my first guess.

Everything seems to work, except perphaps the bulb in the hazard switch (should there be one?) and nothing flashes with the hazards.

My indicators and flasher unit and hazard switch are all wired by the book with the exception that it only has a perm live supply rather than both perm and ign (didnt see the point in both!).

Normally it's the Ignition light that glows.. something to do with the IR light switch I recall. If it's bypassed then I think that solved the glow.

Not a clue but spooky given all these dim glows that seem to follow the 101 circuits around.

Ive rewired mine remember!. the IR switch is in a box in the loft :) ...

My wiring is now great apart from the dodgy feed to the rear lights (the only bit i didnt replace!)

Bulb in hazard switch should flash. Problem could be you ignoring ignition supply. I have never got my head around the complicated Hella set up but it works best when properly connected, worth trying another switch. Could also be an earth problem unrelated to the flasher unit.

ok, will try fixing that one first!

yeah, i wondered if that could be it but im sure it worked properly it when i first did it a few months ago. have only just noticed it not working as advertised.

I will check the back of the dash - though my whole dash is earthed through the same point and I know everything else is earthing as when it doesnt you get wierd warning light behavior and a lasck of illuminations. There isnt anywhere else it could be.

Might be earthing for all that. Any idea what the earth loop resistance is ?

Are they some kind of freedom fighters? ;-)

I'd just run an earth direct from relay to the battery for test purposes.. if it sorts it then you're laughing. If not notify the resistance and hit them where it hurts.

I presume you are breathing like youve got a bad cold while saying this! :)

I will try checking all the earths first,

Though since i've just spread nearly a litre of hammerite over various bits inside the back and felt quite relieved to get out of there into the fresh air afterwards im not going back out there into the truck tonight! :)
