Compressor repair

My compressor has given up the ghost, the rings/pistons are worn and it's letting by. Ok, it's an old one, but it's a twin cylinder 15cfm with 200l tank, I'm loathe to spend £500+ on a new one. Has anyone any ideas where I can get the compressor pump overhauled?

machine mart will sell you a pump, I was looking at 'em earlier. Can you get spares for yours, though?

I don't even know what make it is! It has 1981 stamped on the tank plate, along with the test pressure etc, but no manufacturer information. The pistons have Chinook - 70 stamped on them (70mm is the bore)

Just been looking at the Machine Mart website. I do not like these prices either...... Only 2 models are suitable for my 3HP motor, and neither have a double V pulley. I'm not particularly keen on replacing the belt every couple of months because of having a single belt.

A decent piston ring supplier should be able to sort out suitable rings (and spacers if you need to re-groove the pistons).

See if you can find anyone selling the 'Fu Sheng' pumps. The 3 cylinder TA65 runs well on a 3HP motor and is rated at approximately 15CFM. They may be Chinese but they are quite good gear. I've got one that's given no trouble over 15 years of regular use at home. I've also got it's big brother the TA-100 running in my workshop and that happily ran every day for more than 10 years before it needed replacement rings and bearings (and even then only because some clown let it run out of oil). After the rebuild it's run another 5 years with no trouble to date.

No, but if you want I can mail you a number (that's if he's still doing them on account of old age). I'll look in tomorrow to check, I've not called in for some time.
