Leaking oil from rear axle ends

Just noticed there is an oil leaking from the both ends of the rear axle on the 90. Oily splash marks on the wheels and the axle ends are oily too. I presume it's the seals at each end that it's leaking past, but why? Now I know this model doesn't have those axle breathers like the a Series

111 but pipes that run up to the engine bay instead. Do they get blocked? How do you unblock them? and is there any other reason for this to happen at both ends at the same time?

They do occasional get rusty or blocked.

I would suggest you remove the plastic pipe, remove them from the vehicle and try cleaning them by leaving the inside some diesel fuel and trying to clean them with a brush and blow them with pressurized air.

If this is too much just replace them. I do not think they should cost that much.

Both sides leaking oil most probably means that there is a pressure related problem inside your axle. Oil seals may be in need of being replaced also but the axle must be pressurizing so it is worth starting from there.

Relatively easy to unblock with a bit of thin wire and some fuel/paraffin/etc though easyest to cut off and take up a little slack when refitting.

Ok, thanks to both of you. Do you think the seals will have been damaged and need replacing, the old girl's only done 49K miles and she's got a couple of weeks proper daily work to do in a fortnight.

Cleaning the pipe appears to have solved mine so I'm going to leave well alone unless anything else indicates problems.
