Nokian Winter Tires...Quick Wear Out

About 18 months ago, I reported that I purchased Nokian WR tires for winter driving. I used them for 2 winters and got about 13,000 miles on them. (Removed them during the non-winter months.) Today I had my car in the shop and noticed that they were pretty well worn. I had them removed and installed all season tires for spring-summer-fall driving.

Bottom line is that these tires performed well, but did not last at all. This is Pittsburgh...lots of hills and stop/start, but should have at least gone half the 50,000 mile warranty...not merely 1/4 (13000 miles). I would NOT recommend these tires.

I purchased Cooper Sigma Regent touring tires. We'll see how these do during the warm months. Meantime, I have to figure out what to get for next winter...no more Nokians

Nokian WR *is* an all-season tire.

Not sure what you're talking about here.

Not exactly. The Nokian WR CAN BE USED as an all season tire, but has the "winter symbol" on it. It's very loud and not exactly what I want to be cruising in during the warm months. All that being said, even if you did choose to use it all year round, my point about very premature wear still stands. In fact, it reinforces my point as I ONLY used the tires in winter, often on (less abrasive than dry pavement) snow.

That's what I am talking about, Elmo.

Nokian tires are the best performing winter tires you can get. I have a set of Hakka RSi's that I picked you and they are amazing! I wouldn't run anything else. Considering the high price of Blizzaks. The Hakka RSi are sweet. Maybe you just had a bad set of tires. Or very possible you drive it to hard. It also depends on the rubber compoud you get. Hakka RSi's are only rated to 40,000 Miles. I figure since I use them for Rall-Cross, they won't even last that long.

I've used the Nokian WR tires on my '03 LS430 for two winters now. I live in New Hampshire.

They are louder than the summer Dunlops, but that's to be expected.

I only use them during winter, and I still have about 50% of life left.

I'm quite happy with them.

In the mean time, my Dunlops are gone and I'll need to purchase a new set of summer tires this spring. Any suggestions?

I just put WRs onto my 94 ES, and they're no louder than the Michelins they replaced. In fact, I'm quite happy with them. I bought them to be all-season tires from a company that understands severe service tires.

I plan on using them year round.

My guess is that you probably beat on them a little harder than you should have. They shouldn't wear out quick. Nokians are a damn fine brand of tires also. I love mine. I've never had better traction in my life.
