Alarms on BMWs

1998 3 Series

My friend is troubled by the alarm malfunctioning - he believes it was since visiting a friend and trying out their invalid aid panic alarm (wireless). He took it to the BMW main dealer and they confirmed this was likely and have booked it in for a repair that is likely to cost a minimum of £80.

Is this common? He would quite happily inhibit the system but the dealer says it can't be done. Is he being fed crap?

Any experiences of alarms being messed up by stray radio waves?

Smells like bullshit from the BMW dealer there - keen to extract some cash from your friend. If this is the case they should damn well fix it FOC as that's a really lame excuse for a factory fit alarm if it gets confused by other alarm remotes!

Cheers dan.
