Audi 80 ABK engine

Hi all, more problems, oil light is coming on at random times and random revs, I have put a pressure gauge on it and when hot at idle it reads 25 psi and at 2000 rpm it reads 75 psi book says hot at 2000 rpm it must be at least 2 bar ( 30 psi ) so I think its not actually an oil pressure problem only a switch problem. what I do not understand is why is there 2 pressure switches one on top and the other underneath the filter housing what is the reason for 2, can anyone explain please? engine is 2.0ltr 8 valve ABK Audi

80 1994 year.

Dunno why there are two, but replacing the oil pressure sensor might be a good idea

Several Audi models have two oil pressure swiches.

The high pressure one is used to check for, say, less than 1.8 Bar at revs above 2000 rpm while the low pressure one is used to check for much lower oil pressures at idle.

If the switches themselves are OK, the problem probably lies with bad connections inside the instrument cluster.

Ah ok that sounds like what the chap at German and Swedish was saying but he did not quite explain it like you have. thanks will give them a try can only be these or wiring or light as gauge on engine reads as above post.

What the other bloke said. One's low RPM and the other's high RPM pressure. There may also be one on the head.

Another common occurrence on this car is the temp & fuel gauge can sometimes be a bit erratic. It's usually a dry joint on the voltage stabiliser at the back of the instrument panel.

Ok, thanks will look at that, the temp gauge is a bit erratic what temp should it read when engine is hot, also do you know what lights should light up on the dash, or do you know how to get the dash board out..

Pull the steering wheel as far forward as possible & as far down as possible, take the srew out the top trim & wriggle it out, remove the srews from the cluster & it's a tight fit but then you wriggle it out. Google the American groups for piccies.
