car compuyter help again

You guys where very helpful last time hopefully you can help me again

Put my car pc in yesterday and just couldn't get the gprs to work. Couldn't understand why then remembered a conversation i had with someone about how the glass is tinted and how radar detectors dont work because of it and figured it must be that. put it by the clear bit and now its sorted-just a tip if anyone does the same.

A few questions now. How should i connect it up to my pc in the house. Its got a wireless usb device(sorry dont no its name) but as i understand it i need the same for my pc. could anyone tell me what part i need from this site

-How far will this wireless network work?. I'm in the loft at home about 10 m away from the window and the closest i can get my car is about 10m away the house. Is it going to work that far?

Another thing i was thinking as an alternative to a network was usb stick storage device coupled with an external dvd player. I'd use the stick device to transfer music and then use the dvd player to transfer larger files that i'd wrote to disc. I have a device which converts any dvd drive to an external one. Also i thought external harddrive with the same device. Would it make a hardrive external the same way it makes a dvd drive.

Another question-sorry. I tried connecting a cd drive to the computer last night via the usb converter thing but what do i do from there. It powered up but how do i access it? It wasn't in "my computer" where i expected it to be.

Its running xp-cheers for any help

Last question how quick are those wireless network?

Windows should have picked up the new drive and treated it as normal one.

Does the device show in the device manager?

You may need some device drivers, especially if it is USB 2.0

The Windows update site may have them listed in the windows catalogue part of the site.

get your networking sorted first, then use the home computer as ICS (internet connection sharing) host, and access windows update from the car PC. The wireless operation may be a bit marginal, but it should work.

Cheers for that advice. Decided against the network. Got a 256mb usb storage device and i'm going to run an external dvd player off an inverter

OK. Good luck with it. Mine is out of the car at the moment, while I sort some unlucky coincidences with it failing at different things at the same time.
